Tara is a Partner of the Firm’s Real Estate and Land Development Department. She was called to the Trinidad and Tobago Bar in 1997 and also joined the Firm in that year. Tara is a specialist Real Estate Attorney and has vast experience in real estate law and related property and commercial transactions including conveyances, transfers, assignments, leases and mortgages. Tara’s long career in the Real Estate industry has resulted in a thorough understanding and knowledge of the operations and workings of the Land Registry. Tara is part of a committee of corporate, commercial and conveyancing attorneys who assist with the review of Real Property Legislation in Trinidad and Tobago as well as monitoring the technological changes in the office of the Registrar General of Trinidad and Tobago.

Tara’s main clients include major financial institutions, insurance companies, property developers and residential communities. She also lends considerable support and expertise to the Firm’s Commercial Department, in particular, she advises on a wide range of financial transactions including residential and commercial mortgage and security transactions. Her expertise in tracking down and verifying title also lends invaluable assistance in oil and gas transactions involving old and convoluted private petroleum mining rights. Recent transactions include large scale residential and commercial developments, located in Central and West Trinidad.

Tara also assists in training the staff of her financial clients for the purposes of helping them better understand the legal aspects of mortgage and finance transactions.

Tara enjoys the investigative aspect of real property law and takes pleasure in delving into the story behind each title, some of which can reveal important insights into the historical development of property ownership in Trinidad and Tobago and the events surrounding same. Tara approaches her transactions with enthusiasm and determination and strives to render clear quality advice while being responsive to her clients needs.

Colin was admitted to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in Trinidad and Tobago in October 1993.  He joined the Firm as an Associate in that year and became a Partner in the year 2000.  Colin was appointed Senior Counsel in May, 2023.

Colin heads the Firm’s Litigation Department, and practices as an Advocate Attorney and handles diverse areas of civil law practice including corporate/commercial; securities regulation; insurance; land matters; administrative law; proceeds of crime/money laundering matters construction law and employment claims. He regularly represents clients in the High Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal; and has appeared before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. He also appears as  Counsel in arbitrations and before Commissions of Enquiry such as the Commission of Enquiry into the Construction Sector of Trinidad and Tobago  and the Commission of Enquiry into the Collapse of CL Financial  Ltd. et al  representing clients which have included inter alia the Attorney General and a multi-national accounting firm.

Colin also sat as a Temporary Judge of the High Court of Justice of Trinidad and Tobago from September 2007 to April 2008.  He has also served as a member of the Disciplinary Committee to hear complaints against fellow members of his profession from 2003 to 2007.

He was a seasoned tutor at the Hugh Wooding Law School for 20 years in the areas of Trial Advocacy and for a year in the subject Civil Practice and Procedure.  Colin is passionate about the traditions and responsibilities of the Legal Profession and committed to ensuring that these continue and are passed on to the younger members of the Profession.

Apart from the law, Colin is passionate about his dogs, Liverpool Football Club and Horology.

Kurt joined the Firm in 1986 and was made Partner in 1992. He now serves as the Firm’s Managing Partner and head of the Commercial Department.

His area of speciality is finance, banking and corporate/commercial. He advises a broad range of domestic and international clients in commercial finance transactions, structured credit transactions, leveraged lending transactions, banking, sovereign and commercial bond issues, mergers and acquisitions, securitization transactions and aircraft financing.

Kurt seeks always to gain a deeper level of understanding of his clients’ objectives and products so as to provide a quality service in an efficient and timely manner. He focuses on solutions that are innovative, practical, and tax and cost driven. In so doing, he maintains the Firm’s objectives and track record of delivering advices, which are structurally sound, meet the clients’ objectives and stand the test of time.

Kurt has earned a sterling reputation for his commercial work and has consistently been recognised each year as a leader in Chambers Global, The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business since 2004.  He has also contributed to various legal publications, the latest being his co-authorship of the Trinidad and Tobago chapters in Chambers and Partners, Banking & Finance Law and Practice (2019) and in Dr. G. McBain and Others (eds.), Aircraft Finance: Registration, Security and Enforcement (Sweet & Maxwell, 2018).
